Environmental Policy

The Environment

ACB was created to remove harmful radioactive wastes from the environment and ensure their safe keeping at a national storage facility.  To this end, the material volume is reduced as much as possible where it is safe to do so.

Any arisings from this size reduction will follow a recycling route rather than go to landfill, wherever possible.

It is ACB Management's desire that all Company activities are, wherever practical, carried out with the minimum impact on the environment.

ACB will endeavour to use recycled packaging and minimise the wastes from any processing by utilising the services of an approved recycler or reprocessor.

This policy expresses ACB's commitment to continual improvement, pollution prevention and compliance with the laws and regulations that are integral to its business opportunities.

In order to maintain and sustain this policy and achieve ACB's Environmental Aims & Objectives, the company is committed to:

  • Ensuring continual improvement in the company's environmental performance and providing appropriate resources to accommodate this;
  • Monitoring environmental legislation, regulations and codes of practice that are relevant to ACB's operations, taking reasonable actions to ensure compliance;
  • Developing environmental awareness amongst employees and encouraging them to achieve environmental best practice;
  • Recognising the potential impact of climate change and the strategic and operational need to control, manage and reduce carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions;
  • Reducing the company's use of natural resources such as energy and water;
  • Reusing resources whenever possible rather than disposing of them and encouraging the use of recycled materials and recycling initiatives;
  • Supporting local charities and good causes, whenever possible, in order to minimise the amount of material sent to landfill;
  • Ensuring that all environmental aspects are considered for new or existing contracts, methods, processes or equipment, in order to minimise adverse environmental impacts;
  • Seeking methods of improving the environmental performance of the Company's key suppliers and contractors;
  • Communicating openly and honestly with employees, customers, regulators and any other interested party with regard to environmental protection;
  • Reviewing environmental targets and objectives at the next appropriate management review meeting.
