As part of our current operations, we are able to offer a complete decommissioning service for equipment containing radioactive material. This service includes UK collection, decommissioning and disposal, as well as recycling of all packaging, metal components, circuit boards and plastics. If required, we can also return equipment to you once the radioactive elements have been removed. ACB has successfully managed many hundreds of tonnes of equipment decommissioning for the MoD to date.
Radioactive Material Disposal
Disposal of radioactive material is a complex issue, not only because of the nature of the material, but also because of the complicated regulatory structure for dealing with radioactive material.
ACB has the ability to advise clients and help them manage liaison with The Environment Agency and other regulatory authorities. We have access to approved disposal and recycling routes, both in the UK and overseas, for most types of radioactive materials, as well as a thorough knowledge of the existing regulations governing the collection and disposal of radioactive material.
We also offer an independent service to assist producers in the collection, treatment, reuse, recycling and recovery of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) that contain radioactive substances.
