Thirteen years after the EIS was first issued, and seven after the Yucca mountain project was formally abandoned, the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission was still legally obliged to finish work on this environmental assessment. This recently released supplement to the assessment considered possible impacts on groundwater from a repository, finding them to be small and quashing several long-standing concerns about nuclide leakage that contributed to the cancellation.
