SMOKE DETECTOR DISPOSAL

We manage the disposal process of smoke detectors from start to finish, safely and legally.

The requirements for the disposal of smoke detectors safely and legally are substantial and complex. This is because smoke detectors are radioactive and must be pre-treated, with the radioactive element removed BEFORE they are disposed of via a WEEE (The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations) route.

Why ACB?

ACB is the only company capable of handling and recycling all makes and models of smoke detector in the UK.

Product knowledge - ACB specialists work closely with our clients to understand the models, activity levels of each detector and the quantities to identify a tailored packaging, transport and disposal plan. ACB has an extensive database of virtually all smoke detectors ever made, so even if some of the information is missing, we can usually advise on the details you need.

In-house - Our in-house facility will carry out the removal of the radioactive elements in a laboratory environment, ready for disposal and, where possible, we recover the remaining parts for recycling.

Bespoke - Our flexibility enables us to tailor our services to meet the individual disposal requirements each of our clients have, regardless of the size of the job, and optimise customer value for money.

Peace of mind - We will help you achieve your legal and duty of care requirements, managing key regulatory bodies on your behalf and ensuring the safe disposal of your smoke detectors.

Environment - ACB provides expertise in green waste treatment techniques for smoke detectors such as waste segregation, recycling and re-use of materials.

Transportation - ACB has a vast array of UN approved packages suitable for the transportation of smoke detectors. With our own vehicle fleet, we are able to provide a specialist collection transport service for high volumes of detectors to all our customers where required. To complement this service we use, where appropriate, approved contractors to ship our packages to our processing facility.
